DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Under supervision of Line Foreman or general supervision of city Administration, this position performs primarily skilled tasks in electrical line construction, repair or maintenance; repair or maintenance of water and other facilities; also maintains traffic signal system.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Essential Functions
Operates equipment or machinery in construction; repair and maintenance of electrical line/traffic signal system; maintains water distribution system; ascends utility poles with lineman hooks or through mechanical lift; assists in making new service connections; participates in construction of substation and transformer banks; tests lines to assure proper voltage, makes adjustments to transformers for proper voltage regulation; visually observes distribution lines to determine unsafe or unsatisfactory conditions; becomes proficient in job safety/pole top rescue techniques; wires traffic signal heads and controllers; responsible to keep current any required licensure; completes required paperwork; assists in keeping work area clean; performs related work as required.
Non-Essential Function
Interacts with the public, other employees, and supervisors in a polite, calm and professional manner; as requested, runs errands within the city; may be transferred to assist other departments in performing other work; acts to properly obey all orders given by supervisor(s) in charge of the position.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Broad knowledge of: the theory and principles of electricity; knowledge of: assigned departments functions and goals; applicable equipment and hand tools, safety procedures including CPR and pole top resuscitation; skill in: operating testing equipment and hand tools; ability to: troubleshoot equipment faults, apply the system's procedures/specifications to all phases of the job, follow broad instruction; perform manual labor and to communicate effectively with co-workers, trainees, the public and all supervisory personnel.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training and experience that will allow the incumbent to acquire the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the required tasks. Three (3) years progressively skilled experience in line repair work is desired.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work performed by this position is performed primarily outdoors; thus, inclement weather is likely to be encountered; lifting of heavy equipment is inherent to this job. Normal work week is 40 hours. Call back to duty may be encountered to meet emergency response or extended work day requirements. Must have current CDL.

Pay: $20.41 - $40.43 per hour
