Under supervision from the Fleet Services Attendant Lead, the Fleet Services Attendant performs routine skilled/technical maintenance and inspection of transit system equipment ensuring that a safe, clean and orderly condition is maintained.

Heavy Work: Physical demands are normally those associated with heavy work: Exerting up to of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in up to of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force regularly or constantly to move objects.

- Ensures equipment is operational and safe for daily functions.
- Performs daily inspections of transit equipment; visually inspects areas for cleanliness and identifies problems in need of repair;
- Reports identified repair issues and possible mechanical problems to supervisor;
- Responsible for ensuring fare collection boxes have been restocked and emptied according to establish procedures;
- Identifies safety concerns and recommends actions to deter vandalism and other damage.
- Cleans and maintains transit equipment and facility according to established guidelines to ensure a safe and clean environment.
- Sweeps, mops, vacuums and removes trash from both driver and rider areas;
- Wipe down interior of equipment, driver’s area, fare box, handrails, seats, vents, etc.;
- Clean windshield, driver’s interior mirrors, all side windows and doors;
- Safeguards transit equipment from damage while operating through automated washing system;
- Maintains and cleans work surroundings in designated area.
- Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment as directed.
- Performs minor maintenance/repair activities on equipment such as replacing parts and fluid level monitoring of fuel, oil, coolant, etc.;
- Assists Equipment Technicians on minor repairs and preventative maintenance as needed.
- Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.
- Knows and follows department and city rules as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss;
- Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work;
- When potentially unsafe conditions are observed makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner.
- Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
- Interacts regularly with others in the work unit to exchange basic information as requested or as necessary to perform job duties;
- Occasionally interacts with others in the work unit or across departments to exchange detailed and/or technical information where the ability to explain concepts is exercised.
- Performs other duties and activities as assigned.

- Knowledge of basic cleaning/maintenance methods and practices and proper chemical handling;
- Skill in operating a variety of hand and power tools;
- Manual skill in performing cleaning and maintenance functions;

- Skill in communication, interpersonal skills and customer service skills;
- Ability to read work orders, instructions, and labels;
- Ability to perform basic math calculations;
- Ability to learn new computer applications.
