Position Summary
Join our team as a skilled Fleet Technician, where you'll play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of city-owned vehicles and equipment, including fire, ambulance, diesel-powered cars, and emergency units. Essential Job Functions
As a Fleet Technician, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks to keep our fleet operating smoothly. You will excel in :
- Conducting repairs and routine maintenance on all city-owned equipment and vehicles promptly.
- Handling vehicle transportation for required servicing and implementing necessary fabrication and welding repairs when needed.
- Tailoring equipment modifications to meet the specific needs of our departments, ensuring optimal performance.
- Skillfully performing new vehicle up-fittings, including installing light bars, strobes, toolboxes, portable generators and compressors, custom power supplies, computer docking stations, orange cone storage systems, fifth wheel hitches, liftgates, city logos, and decals.
- Diagnoses, installs services for fleet vehicles / equipment including mechanical, electrical, computerized circuitry, refrigeration, ignition, transmission / transaxle, brake, fuel and exhaust. Including but not limited to preventive maintenance.
Education and Experience

Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, CJIS Fingerprint check, drug and alcohol test, and a motor vehicle review. Current CDL holders must pass a DOT-regulated drug / alcohol test and successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.

Work Environment :

Physical demands include heavy lifting (over 50 lbs.), climbing, driving, outdoor work, and exposure to vehicles on lifts, running vehicles, and solvents, fuels, and paints.

If you do not possess a Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License, are you willing to obtain one within six months of hire (pass written exams for CDL within 3 months and obtain full CDL within 6 months)?
