This position is open until filled and may close without notice.*****Employment for this position will be scheduled from March 31st through September 26th***The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.The purpose of this position is to provide grounds maintenance and to maintain the appearances and services of Farmers Branch.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provides grounds maintenance including: irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair; vehicle maintenance; litter and trash control; pest control services; signage; maintenance of park benches, picnic tables, grills, and trash cans; trimming, planting, mulching, and landscaping; hauling heavy items and equipment; and overseeing assigned volunteers.Provides general maintenance and support at special events including preparation activities and litter/trash control; hauling light and heavy items, installing temporary safety fences and trash cans.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner. Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.Basic ability to recognize meaning of common two or three syllable words. Basic ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses.Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.Knowledge of ground maintenance equipment and techniques.Skill in operating both heavy and light equipment. Skill in the use of small hand tools and power tools.Special Requirements: Core work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 2:30 pm with occasional evening and weekend hours.May be subject to "stand by" duty outside of normal working hours.Licenses and Certificates: Valid Class "C" driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed.Work Environment: Work involves exposure to disagreeable elements and noise. Involves continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to poor weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of heavy objects weighing up to 100 lbs. Continuous physical exertion, requiring heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back or sensory facilities.Climbs, kneels, squats, stoops, bends or walks in confined spaces. Sits, stands, or walks for long periods of time. Works around and may be exposed to dust, chemicals and mechanical hazards.
