HOURS WORKED: 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

JOB DUTIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Determines work to be performed from work orders or instructions from Maintenance Superintendent, Construction Superintendent, or Working Foreman of Line Division.
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
Works under the general supervision of the Working Foreman.
Promotes and follows safe practices, procedures, and safety rules and participates in scheduled Safety Meetings.
Demonstrates honesty, integrity, confidentiality, dependability, and flexibility along with initiative and motivation to organize and complete tasks and meet deadlines.
Performs duties and assignments and conducts self in such a manner as to reflect credit on the Utility.
Installs service drops and meters.
Works as a troubleman in locating and repairing faults with power lines and related devices. Sometimes works alone in finding problems on the line.
Performs work on line protective devices.
Performs electrical line construction and/or maintenance consisting of setting and framing poles, stringing conductors, splicing and terminating conductors, hanging and setting transformers and devices, and working on energized conductors and equipment and devices. This work is done both off the pole and/or from an aerial device.
Performs maintenance and construction on low and high voltage transmission and distribution lines, using rubber gloves and hotsticks.
Assists in development of apprentices and helpers.
When applicable, maintains accurate daily records such as time sheets, charges for damages to our system and inventory control (ensure all materials are correctly charged to each job). Note any changes to a work order on the print before it is turned in as complete.
Operates all mobile equipment used in line maintenance and construction.
Assists in the Construction and maintenance of substations.
Installs and maintains street lighting, industrial lighting and park lighting.
Installs underground conduit and conductors.
Required to work out of insulated aerial devices that have a standard rating of 300 lbs. maximum per platform.
Using a truck with winch, transports poles and materials, pulls wire, sets transformers and poles.
Is knowledgeable of and responsible for related City equipment and insures its efficient use.
Work is performed outside in all types of weather conditions.
Reasonable and necessary overtime work will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes, pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
High school diploma or equivalent with additional training in basic electricity and high voltage work procedures.
Must have graduated from an approved apprentice program or have equivalent on the job training, and must qualify as Journeyman Lineman with physical ability to work pole line and high voltage construction and maintenance, both off the pole and from aerial trucks.
Valid New Mexico Driver's License required with the ability to obtain a class A Commercial Driver's License within three (3) month after hire.
Ability to climb to heights over 100 feet.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency of pole top and bucket truck hurtman rescue on an annual basis.
Knowledgeable in use of specially designed tools for H.V. work.
Ability to drive trucks in excess of 26,000 GVW.
Ability to work with others and follow directions from supervisor.
Must have a telephone at residence and be willing to be on 24-hour call; must be able to report to the Municipal Operations Center (MOC) within thirty minutes after receiving a call.
REQUIRED TESTING
Written test, oral board interview, and a skills test may be part of the overall scoring process. A post-offer, job related background, physical and drug screen is required.

The employee must be able to climb poles from 20' to 100' with full climbing gear and tools weighing approximately 15 to 20 pounds at least 25% of the time.
