Essential Job Duties

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment.
- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Assist with cultivation and care of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees on city public spaces.
- Assist with design of gardens and public spaces.
- Assist in selection and acquisition of appropriate plant materials for public spaces.
- Participate in propagation, care and transplanting of plants, etc.
- Maintain assigned flower beds and gardens in parks and public spaces.
- Interact with the public and answer questions related to the gardens.
- Maintain records and provide data or documentation as needed.
- Perform chemical and fertilizer applications.
- Design, install and repair irrigation systems.
- As assigned, serve as a lead worker.
- Assist with care and maintenance of required equipment.
- Position requires occasional after-hours or weekend work in support of greenhouse operations.
- Assist and participate in horticultural related community programs including community gardens.
Secondary Job Duties

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience or B.S. degree in Horticulture or related field.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, offenses against children, and any offense that would qualify to prevent a person from obtaining an Arkansas teaching certificate (A.C.A. 6-17-410).
- Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area, circumference, volume, percentages, fractions and ratios. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Must be proficient in the use of a computer and related software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment and small horticulture equipment, vehicles and utility non-road authorized vehicle.
- Must have knowledge of plant identification and growing requirements of plants.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of vibration.The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is occasionally moderate to loud.
