Essential Job Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Note: All City of Fayetteville positions require employees to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Other essential duties of this position include the following:
1. Develop and maintain numerous databases and spreadsheets for project contacts to facilitate effective communication with community members regarding City projects at varying scales.
2. Support the development of a range of project and engagement planning materials (i.e., fact sheets, FAQs, communications plans, surveys, questionnaires, presentations, etc.)
3. Research demographic and population data to inform equitable outreach practices that will engage underrepresented communities.
4. Assist in coordinating the citizen participation process; meet with the general public to discuss planning, zoning and development issues; assist the public to define concerns and present public questions to management; follow up with the public to apprise them of City policy and decisions. Some projects may include supporting a project hotline and answering calls from the public.
5. Draft and create project website content and updates, as well as social media content and updates.
6. Track and draft responses to community correspondence and interactions.
7. Coordinate logistics for in-person and online community events, workshops, and meetings including the planning, coordination, and staffing.
8. Provide in-person, onsite, and door-to-door outreach to community members, neighbors, and businesses.
9. Coordinate and staff onsite community events including tabling, event booths, pop-ups, and other culturally responsive events.
10. Implement formal and informal communication and outreach efforts with a focus on targeted delivery and evaluation. Assist in creating and implementing outreach and communication strategies and work plans. Be responsible for identifying target audiences, keeping appropriate records, developing content, and coordinating activities with partners to ensure their effectiveness.
11. Develop and maintain positive relationships with other entities cities, schools, universities, agencies, organizations and associations to promote planning projects and initiatives through outreach activities.
12. Prepare and present staff recommendations at public meetings and write comprehensive reports and memos related to planning issues and policies regarding planning projects and initiatives. Present projects to various boards and be prepared to answer questions.
13. Responsible for facilitating meetings and representing the City at assigned board or commission meetings.
14. Assist in a variety of long range City planning activities such as updating existing land use plans, adoption of new plans, revisions to development and zoning code and other urban design and neighborhood planning initiatives.
15. Assist in application for and administration of grants, including expenditures, budgeting, preparation of financial reports, and project accounting.
16. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Political Science, Planning, Architecture, or a related field with three years of related experience is required.
2. Possess a valid driver’s license.
3. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing often under complex conditions that require good judgment.
4. Must possess the ability to make clear, effective public presentations.
5. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
6. Must be proficient in the use of a computer and software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, document design, and presentation applications. Must be able to become proficient in the use of GIS applications and other software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
7. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to move from location to location; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities to perform essential functions.
8. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally required to traverse uneven terrain such as undeveloped land or construction sites.
