Essential Job Duties
SPECIAL INFORMATION:

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment.
- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Perform supervisory responsibilities which may include interviewing, hiring, and training seasonal swimming pool staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving payroll time sheets, appraising performance, rewarding employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's policies and applicable laws.
- Under direct supervision of the Recreation Programs Manager, this position operates and manages the Wilson Park Swimming Pool. In the absence of the immediate supervisor, this position reports to the Recreation Superintendent.
- Recognize, implement and enforce all policies and procedures pertaining to the Wilson Park Swimming Pool established by the Washington County Health Department, American Red Cross and the City of Fayetteville. Work with Recreation Programs Manager to upgrade the swimming pool policies and programs. Identify unsafe situations and take steps to prevent aquatic emergencies and injuries.
- Consult as needed with the County Health Department, Red Cross office, and the Parks and Recreation office as to proper pool operating procedures.
- Responsible for implementing Risk Management at Wilson Pool including routine practice of safety standards expectations and the facility's Emergency Action Plan.
- Schedule staff as required to ensure public safety and proper operation of the pool.
- Complete monthly report(s) including pool attendance records, swim lesson enrollment, cashier transactions, chemical use, monthly hours of operation, and employee hours worked. Submit report(s) to the Recreation Programs Manager within two days of the new month. Keep records and complete other reports as required by the Washington County Health Department or other regulatory agencies.
- Ensure all daily financial and attendance records are kept in proper order. This includes daily deposits slips, cashier transaction records, as well as daily attendance figures.
- Maintain inventory of all pool chemicals, maintenance and cleaning supplies, first aid supplies and water safety items. Purchases must be approved by the Recreation Programs Manager, Park Operations Assistant, or Park Maintenance Supervisor.
- Perform daily checks of all pool facilities, including the water clarity and balance, pool floor, ladders, gutters, deck area, entry and restroom facilities. Keep accurate water test records as required by the County Health Department.
- Review and approve the swim lesson schedule, pool reservations and all other pool programs. Ensure adequate staff is scheduled for events and attendance numbers are recorded.
- Schedule periodic staff meetings and in-service meetings as recommended by the American Red Cross and/or Fayetteville Parks and Recreation.
- Attend weekly meetings with Recreation Programs Manager, Assistant Pool Managers, and other Parks and Recreation Staff to review all pool matters and schedules.
- This position is subject to being called in to work or to take emergency phone calls as necessary.
- Responsible for keeping pool staff informed on pool programs in order to promote events and activities as accurately as possible. .
- Responsible for performing any and all duties assigned to pool staff as needed to ensure patron safety and enjoyment.
- Maintain professional behavior consistent with the expectations of the Parks & Recreation Department and the City.
- Conduct seasonal opening and closing responsibilities of Wilson Park Swimming Pool.
Secondary Job Duties
- Secondary duties as assigned by the Recreation Programs Manager, Recreation Superintendent, or Parks and Recreation Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must have current lifeguard certification from Red Cross or other accredited agency. “Individuals who are hired and meet the required criteria will be eligible for reimbursement for the cost of Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.”
- Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, offenses against children, any offense under A.C.A. § 21-15-111 and any offense that would qualify to prevent a person from obtaining an Arkansas teaching certificate (A.C.A. 6-17-410).
- Must possess CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certifications.
- Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts related to cash handling and/or pool water chemistry such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Must be proficient in the use of a computer and related software programs and be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or crawl. Must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
