The City of Fayetteville's Transit Department is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in maintenance, repair, custodial and related activities pertaining to transit, to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean, maintain, and repair equipment, roads, alleyways, right-of-ways, streets, open spaces, City cemeteries, parking lots, curbs, sidewalks, and other City facilities.
- Perform street construction and maintenance activities; dig and maintain ditches; backfill trenches and holes; install storm drainage pipes; participate in curb and sidewalk projects; repair and replace brick pavers.
- Perform grounds maintenance activities including the mowing of lawns, routine landscaping, and haul debris and trash.
- Prepare ball fields for use; participate in playground installation and maintenance; repair and maintain landscape areas in and around work sites.
- Perform janitorial functions and similar duties in assigned area; load and unload trucks.
- Set up and take down construction site signage and barricades for traffic control; follow safety regulations.
- Participate in activities required during seasonal weather events.
- Operate and maintain a variety of construction and street maintenance equipment; gardening equipment; and a variety of hand tools; ensure security of equipment.
- Maintain garbage, yard waste and recycling carts; collect recyclable material; build, deliver, and collect carts from City facilities, residents and other locations as needed.
- Operate pressure washer and battery operated street sweeper; pick up and deliver vehicles and parts; perform minor repairs to furniture and fixtures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Six months of experience performing field maintenance work within the assigned area of work.
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.
Preferred:
Forklift certification; Biohazard certification; Small Equipment training completion.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
