The City of Fayetteville's Public Services Department is currently recruiting for a Solid Waste Collector to provide waste pick-up and disposal for the residents of Fayetteville in an efficient and timely manner; to deposit collected refuse and debris at the county landfill; and to ensure that collection vehicles are properly equipped and serviced for routes. This position is an essential driving position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect solid waste and yard waste materials from residential units and other areas as assigned.
- Inspect the contents of the load; ensure the purity of the load when collecting yard waste; collect refuse and scattered debris at collection sites and along city streets; transport load to the landfill.
- Participate in the inspection of collection vehicles to ensure proper mechanical functioning; assist with preparation for daily use; perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance; ensure that collection vehicle is kept clean.
- Consult with immediate supervisor for any route changes.
- Manually collect waste and debris from residential and commercial sites; lift and carry moderate to heavy waste materials for short durations of time; clean storm drains and curbs as needed.
- Report any damaged collection vehicles and equipment, job related accidents, and roadway issues which affect the safe operation of collection vehicles to the supervisor.
- Answer questions and provide information to citizens regarding collection requirements; notify citizens of obstructed collection stops.
- Maintain and prepare daily logs, surveys, truck inspections and other necessary documentation of completed activities.
- Respond as needed in emergency or disaster recovery stages following weather events or other emergency related clean-up and recovery.
- Ensure that safety apparel is worn at all times and safety rules and practices are practiced (or followed) in the performance of all duties.

Required:

Working hours are 7:00 am - 5:30 pm and workdays will vary per week, may require to work some holidays.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, physical abilities test, background check and driving history check.
