Position Objectives:
Under general supervision, receives emergency calls, takes necessary information and dispatches proper emergency personnel. Performs a variety of moderately complex data entry and clerical for the Federal Heights Police Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate CAD system and printer.
- Operate CCIC/NCIC and E911 systems.
- Effectively communicate with Police Department, Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and other agencies.
- Answer emergency and non-emergency telephone lines.
- Dispatch emergency and non-emergency units to calls.
- Communicate over multiple channels with other law enforcement agencies.
- Relay law enforcement information to other law enforcement agencies.
- Disseminate critical information to units.
- Record information on Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for units.
- Record information on Police and Fire Department logs.
- Enter and query data from CCIC/NCIC systems.
- Make entries, cancellations and modifications in CCIC/NCIC computer.
- Monitor alarm board for intruder and fire alarms.
- Operate TTY to communicate with hearing impaired citizens.
- Monitor camera screens for unusual activity.
- Provide Bonding services for the City and County.
- Provide information to utility, City maintenance crew and call-out as needed.
- Ability to work shifts and holidays as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- One year (1) of experience as a Dispatcher, Communication Specialist, Customer Service or similar position in a communication or dispatch center preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to accurately relay facts and details
- Ability to interact with co-workers, general public and other personnel in a respectful and professional manner
- Ability to remain calm and gather information in emergency situations
- Ability to maintain control over situations
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely
- Ability to coordinate non-emergency services upon request
- Ability to prioritize, pay attention to detail and maintain strong organizational skills in a busy environment
- Knowledge of basic computer functions
- Strong customer service skills required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Keyboard speed at 35 wpm.
- 24/7 – Shift Work, including nights, holidays and weekends
- May be recalled to duty at any time as required.
- Dispatcher must be able to transfer callers to other agencies as needed, able to transfer callers to voicemails or other phones throughout the city as needed, able to direct a caller to Interpretation services, when a translator is needed, call in additional man power as needed for Dispatch, Fire Department and Police Department.
- Dispatcher must be able to call out Victim Services, on call Detectives, Public Works, Fleet Maintenance and arson investigators as needed.
WORKING ENVIRONMENTS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Physical activities include sitting for long periods of time, occasional standing, walking, twisting upper body; hearing, coordination, speaking, vision and manual dexterity.
- Employees are required to work in a frequently stressful and emotionally challenging environment.

The City of Federal Heights provides the following benefits to employees: 11 holidays, vacation accruals for full-time employees are based on years of service from 6.67-13.33 hours per month. Full-time firefighters accrue vacation based on years of service from 12-18 hours per month. Full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of 8 hours per month of service to a maximum of 960 hours. Part-time employees accrue sick leave at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked. Regular full-time employees, except for police officers and firefighters, are required to participate in the City’s 401(a) retirement plan. A voluntary 457 plan is also available to all regular employees. Police Officers and firefighters participate in a State-approved retirement plan, FPPA. The City of Federal Heights offers both short-term disability and long-term disability to its regular and part-time employees. Police officers and firefighters are eligible for long-term disability benefits in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth by the State of Colorado’s Fire and Police Pension Association (FPPA). The City of Federal Heights offers life insurance benefits to all full- and part-time employees. Part-time employees must work a minimum of 30 hours per week to be eligible for life insurance benefits. The City also offers a voluntary life insurance plan for employees to purchase additional life insurance. Regular and part-time employees are eligible for City of Federal Heights benefits the first of the month after their hire date. Part-time employees must work at least 30 hours per week to be eligible for pro-rated benefits. Medical benefits are offered through Colorado Employers Benefit Trust (CEBT), which is self-funded multiple employer trust that currently provides employee benefits for over 300 public entities, school districts, and colleges. The City of Federal Heights offers the choice of three medical plans through CEBT. Employees can choose from an EPO, PPO, or Kaiser HMO plan. Vision insurance is provided through VSP, and dental benefits are offered through Delta Dental.More Information:
