What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dance Instructor position at City of Federal Way?
NOTE: This is a part-time position working no more than 17 hours per week, with no benefits.
Under the direction of the Arts and Community Events Recreation Coordinator, Dance Instructors teach a variety of dance classes including ballet, tap, jazz, and creative movement for youth including preschool age children.
- Plan and teach dance classes for preschool children and other youth.
- Develop written class lesson plans.
- Communicate clearly with children and adults.
- Evaluate class effectiveness and make changes as needed or requested.
- Ensure a safe and constructive teaching environment.
- Prepare class evaluations and attendance forms as requested.
- Remain current in training and education required to effectively teach class in area of expertise.
- Work with the public in a polite, understanding, and tactful manner.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Any combination of education, professional training, and dance experience that provides the required level of knowledge and ability to teach classes in area of expertise is required.
Must have knowledge of ballet, tap, jazz, and creative movement.
Must be First Aid & CPR certified.
Successful candidates for this position will be subject to a background check pursuant to RCW 43.43.832.
