What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard (Seasonal Summer 2025) position at City of Ferguson?
Ferguson Parks and Recreation is looking for full-time seasonal Lifeguards to assist with the operations of the Ferguson Aquatic Complex Splash at Wabash. Work involves overseeing the opening, closing, and daily operations of the Splash at Wabash including greeting the public and being available to answer questions and assist facility users. Responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies, also, instructs aquatic programs and swim lessons in an outdoor pool environment. Work is performed with considerable independence under general supervision from a Pool Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Enforces all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
Instructs pool programming and swim lessons.
Responsible for vacuuming, skimming, and sweeping the pool and deck areas.
Back-washes the pool, cleans the filters and chlorination equipment, checks water chemistry, completes and maintains proper documentation.
Exhibits a professional image, behavior, appearance, and demeanor at all times.
Maintains required certifications. Participates in regular in-service training sessions.
Works to assure that every patron has a positive experience. Responds to internal and external requests without delay.
Maintains strict confidence in all matters, works well with fellow staff members, treats all individuals with dignity and respect.
Appears at work on time and as scheduled. Is responsible and reliable in attendance.
Handles equipment and resources in a proper manner for optimum usage.

Promote aquatic programs and center memberships.
Maintain open communication with guests, participants and/or participants parents, and other aquatics staff.
Complete additional duties assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certified in Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED training (We are able to provide training if not already certified).
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work as an individual and also within the framework of a team.
Must possess strong human relation skills.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Subject to working a varied schedule including days, evenings and weekends.
Previous experience as a Lifeguard preferred, but not required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is done primarily outside at the Splash at Wabash Aquatic Complex (501 N. Florissant).
