Description
The City of Fishers Engineering Department is seeking a highly qualified Infrastructure Inspector who thrives in a fast paced, high-pressure environment and finds satisfaction in ensuring the high standards of the community in which they work.

- Assist with capital project construction inspection.

This position is responsible for performing technical work inspecting the infrastructure for City-initiated improvement projects as well as various private developments of the city as they are constructed. The Infrastructure Inspector will physically inspect a wide array of construction with a focus on sanitary and storm sewers. Additional inspections could include streets, trails, signals, roundabouts and sidewalks. This position is responsible for proper project reporting and issuing citations or notices of violations to contractors which do not comply with ordinances.
Examples of Duties
- Perform sanitary sewer inspections for both commercial and residential projects.
- Perform storm sewer inspections for development and redevelopment projects.
- Witness testing for sanitary and storm sewer systems such as mandrel, air, and vacuum testing.
- Review sewer video to check for compliance with construction standards.
- Perform road, trail, and other infrastructure inspections.
- Perform commercial and residential lateral inspections.
- Respond to citizen complaints in an attempt to resolve the various problems.
- Review contractors pay applications for City-initiated and INDOT projects to confirm accuracy of quantity records.
- Test construction materials which may include proof rolls, concrete slump, air entrainment, and compressive strength.
- Collect material certifications to ensure compliance with City and INDOT construction specifications.
- Ensure developers acquire the appropriate maintenance bonds.
- Prepare periodic inspection reports for assigned infrastructure projects.
- Provide constructability reviews of infrastructure improvement projects.
- Prepare quantity estimates, review contractor pay estimate applications, and review change orders.
- During winter weather, assist in snow removal/snow plow operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required but Associates/Technical degree preferred;
- 2 -4 years of relatable work experience in civil engineering or construction;
- INDOT inspection experience preferred;
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle required;
- IWEA Construction Observation Certification (required or obtain within 1 year of employment);
- INDOT Certified Technician (required or obtain within 2 years of employment);
- INDOT Site Manager Certified (required or obtain within 1 year of employment);
- Ability to handle a variety of assignments and problems independently;
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people in sometimes stressful situations;
- Working knowledge of laws, codes, regulations and ordinances as they relate to city, county, state and federal government;
- Must be available to assist in snow removal/snow plow operations during winter weather.
