Join our team of dynamic City of Fishers Parks staff this summer by working as a Lifeguard at the Geist Waterfront Park. The purpose of this position is to provide an exciting, fun, and safe environment to all residents visiting the park. Lifeguards are responsible for everyday operational tasks at the Geist Waterfront Park. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing a safe environment to residents and visitors by responding to emergencies, maintaining a clean park, and staying up to date on trainings and certifications. *Lifeguard Certification Training will be provided if you are not already a certified lifeguard. Must be 16 years old to work as a beach lifeguard. Shifts are typically a minimum of 5 hours long between the hours of 8am - 7:30pm. More shifts are offered to those with flexibility in their schedules.
Examples of Duties:
- Ensure the safety of all swimmers and waterfront area
- Display rescue ready behavior at all times while on duty
- Exhibit professional behavior at all times while on duty
- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until EMS arrive
- Assists in implementing Emergency Action Plans
- Communicate effectively with other guards, park staff, supervisors, and other in swimming areas
- Attend and actively participate in scheduled in service trainings
- Document and report all accidents/incidents to supervisor immediately
- Ensure all hazardous conditions are reported immediately
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age;
- Current Lifeguard Certification including First Aid, CPR/AED, and Emergency Oxygen or ability to attend Lifeguard Certification training through City of Fishers;
- Must be able to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Prerequisite skills which includes swimming 300 yards continuously, treading water for 2 minutes using only legs, and surface diving feet first to a depth of 13 feet;
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time;
- Ability to lift 50 pounds;
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends;
- This role is outside and will occur in various weather conditions.
