Description:
Water is life. It is also a powerful force that, if not managed effectively, can sink a community. This is why employees in the Water Quality Division of Public Works are vitally important to the City of Fishers and its citizens. The Part-time Laborer position is part of a dedicated team that performs manual work maintaining city sanitary sewer collection systems and stormwater drainage systems. Projects of the division include: street cleaning, asphalt and concrete work, sewer repair and maintenance, easement and rights-of-way clearing, and snow removal. Equipment used includes vactor truck, sewer jet cleaner, street sweeper, jackhammers, rollers, saws, back-hoes, dump trucks, etc.
Examples of Duties:
- Perform curb and inlet repairs
- Assist with visual inspections
- Clean sewers using a sewer jet machine
- Sweep streets
- Raise manhole covers in the event they are buried or below ground level
- Perform sewer line repairs
- Trim trees and bushes along sewer easements and rights-of-way
- Assist with snow removal from City streets
- Assist Public Works Department as necessary
- Clean shop and equipment as necessary
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Valid IN drivers license with at least 3 years of driving experience required and must be able to be insured to drive city vehicles;
- Must be able to work 25-29 hours per week Monday - Friday from 7am - 3pm and have flexibility to work shifts outside normal business hours during snow events or for other operational needs;
- Requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.;
- Must have working knowledge of light to heavy duty vehicles and equipment (trucks, tractors, small machines, etc);
- Ability to climb ladders and maintain balance required;
- Must be able to interact and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of people;
- Must be able to handle several projects at the same time;
- Experience in wastewater treatment, stormwater management, or related field preferred.
Supplemental Information:
- Approximately 25-29 hours per week.
- Regular work hours are Monday - Friday from 7am-3pm, however, position requires availability to work outside of normal business hours when necessary for snow removal duties and other operational needs.
