Description:
This Part-Time Field Support position at Maker Playground will be responsible for developing and leading engaging, STEAM-focused (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) programs for youth in the Fishers community. This role will focus on identifying community needs, designing solutions, and delivering educational experiences such as camps, workshops, and classes, with a particular emphasis on non-competitive robotics programs. This position will work closely with the Makerspace Manager and educators to ensure successful integration of STEAM principles and innovative use of Maker Playground resources. While shop supervision is a minor aspect of this role, familiarity with equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters is essential. This is a year-round part-time position, averaging 20-29 hours per week, with evening and weekend availability required.
Examples of Duties:
- Develop and deliver youth-focused STEAM programming, including robotics camps and clubs, workshops, and creative education initiatives.
- Identify and address community needs for youth programming, including organizing and facilitating youth-focused events.
- Utilize equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, and design software to create hands-on learning experiences for students.
- Coordinate with contractors and educators to fulfill programming needs beyond your expertise.
- Provide basic supervision in the shop when necessary, assisting members with equipment usage, and ensuring a safe environment.
- Conduct safety training as needed for new members, specifically focused on youth engagement.
- Assist with ideation, planning, and execution of internal projects related to youth programming and outreach.
- Perform basic administrative duties related to programming and membership services.
- Support in developing and executing community events and other operational tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior experience in youth programming preferred, especially in STEAM or maker-related fields (experience through work or hobby will be considered);
- Basic knowledge of equipment used in the space, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and design software. Willingness to learn other equipment as needed;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
- Ability to work creatively in a fast-paced environment, effectively balancing multiple tasks;
- Demonstrated ability to develop educational content and lead youth programs;
- Must pass a background check and demonstrate suitability for working with children;
- Evening and weekend availability based on program needs.
