Description
The City of Fishers Planning & Zoning Department is seeking a college intern majoring in Public Policy, Urban Planning, Political Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, or a related field for an internship during the summer of 2025. This internship is scheduled for May August 2025, but the schedule can be flexible based on the students class schedule ending/beginning. This would be a full-time internship, 35 hours a week with the occasional opportunity to participate in special events or evening meetings.

Examples of Duties
- Provides support to the Planning & Zoning;
- Assists planning staff in collecting and preparing data for various planning projects;
- Conducts field work including Geographical Information System (GIS);
- Prepares maps and planning reports of limited or variable complexity;
- Produces sketches and renderings of limited or variable complexity;
- Assists planning staff at community meetings;
- Presents report findings at community meetings;
- Research funding sources and grant opportunities;
- Conducts basic office functions as needed such as data entry, file management, and customer service.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age, and enrolled in college, preferable completion of at least one year of studies of Public Policy, Urban Planning, Political Science, Environmental Studies, Geography or a related field;
- Ability to work in an office;
- Must have a laptop or computer to work from with the ability to access the internet;
- Basic Understanding of planning principles and theory;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Strong research and analytical skills;
- Motivated self-starter able to work independently;
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- Flexibility and desire to work on varying planning projects;
- Proficiency in Microsoft office and GIS; Experience with InDesign, Photoshop and Trimble SketchUp preferred.
Supplemental Information
- Internship is funded for three (3) months full time (Monday through Friday 8:30 AM 4: 30 PM, 35 hours per week). However, flexible scheduling may be available
- Pay is $15/hour for undergrad / bachelor students
