This role actively supports and upholds the City’s stated mission and values. Under direct supervision of the Library Supervisor, employees of this classification perform routine duties associated with daily library operations.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Jail Library
- Communicates frequently among prison officers to coordinate library delivery to inmates while providing the Deputy Library Director with regular updates on policies and procedures implemented at the County Jail along with other informative institutional updates.
- Distributes and collects library materials among inmates.
- Mend materials, coordinate donations, or restock materials as necessary.
- Places holds and finds materials for patrons.
- Provides training and work for inmate trustees to collect and mend materials from “Shakedown” returns.
- Selects and deselects materials by assessing library's needs and ordering appropriate materials.
- Select, acquire, and order large quantities of materials from approved vendors. Receives, processes, covers, and shelves magazines and books according to Jail Library procedures.
- May perform cataloging duties as necessary.
- Tracks and reports monthly statistics including inmates served, service hours, materials circulation, materials requests and reference questions.
- Works closely with Collection Management Services staff on ordering and receipt of library materials.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Associates degree or two years of college level coursework.
- Two years of experience working in a public library including one year working with computers and on-line resources, including library circulation software.
- Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field.
- Three years of progressively responsible employment in the library field.
- Knowledge of the local community and its resources.
- Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Dine, Hopi, and/or Spanish.
- Experience in early childhood education, storytimes particularly for ages birth through 5 years, ability to offer bilingual storytimes a plus (Youth Services and EFCL only).
- Experience planning, developing, and preparing library programming (Reference, Youth Services, and EFCL only).
- Experience talking about library services to groups (Reference, Youth Services, and EFCL only).
- Basic knowledge of and experience with collection development/maintenance.
- Experience working with interlibrary loan software and processing interlibrary loan requests (ILL position only).
- Cataloging experience for Collection Management Services (Collection Mgt only).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
- Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver's license.
- Basic understanding of communication and customer service principles. Demonstrates competent written and verbal communication.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to use hands or fingers to feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Salary : $19 - $29
