ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Supervisory: This job does not have formal supervisory responsibilities.
- Budgetary: This job does not have budgetary responsibilities but carries out day-to-day activities within approved budget.
- Strategic Planning: This job does not have strategic planning responsibilities but carries out day-to-day activities in order to reach the stated goals and objectives.
- Policies/Procedures: This job carries out day-to-day activities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Compliance: This job carries out day-to-day activities in accordance with Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations as well as City policies and procedures.
- Council Communications: This job carries out day-to-day activities in accordance with Council’s adopted priorities and direction.
- Reporting: This job does not have duties related to reporting to Federal/State/Local agencies.
- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Work Order preparation – developing citizen and internal requests for service into work orders for the Streets Section of Public Works. This often involves field measurements, data review, plan development and work order system entry and tracking.
- Field Inventories – collecting field measurements of various components of City infrastructure – examples are measuring sidewalk widths and lengths, measuring roadway marking and striping layouts, street lighting and signage.
- Safe Routes to School – field conditions review, measuring and counting student activity, development of safe walking route maps and coordination with appropriate school staff and administration.
- Data Collection – setting, monitoring and retrieving various field data collection equipment like pneumatic road tubes, radar counters and travel time studies and video equipment.
- Literature Review / Research on various emerging topics in anticipation of development of new and revised procedures, policies and standards.
- Geographic Information Systems – basic GIS mapping and database manipulation projects as assigned.
- Traffic Signal Operations – field observations, field measurements, timing parameter calculations and travel time runs are typical activities.
- Request Tracker – responsible for monitoring and responding or assigning citizen requests as they are submitted through the City’s webpage.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from a college or university program in Civil Engineering, Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
- Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
- Basic understanding of modern principles and practices, and current literature and research in the field of civil engineering and transportation engineering.
- Basic understanding of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, engineering, construction, and maintenance of public works facilities such as traffic control devices, streets, curb and gutter, drainage, and utilities.
- Ability to creatively solve problems.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service by being attentive, respectful and timely in working with a wide variety of clients.
- Basic knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations related to municipal traffic engineering and the Arizona Revised Statutes.
- Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation engineering to include modern methods and procedures and thorough knowledge of national and state standards and policies such as the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, AASHTO design guidelines and Arizona Department of Transportation design standards and Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger/handle/feel, talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ad ability to adjust focus.
- Working conditions include occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions; working near moving mechanical parts; working in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; and extreme cold or heat.
