Primary duty is to enforce the City of Florence Animal Control Ordinances. This entails the impoundment of dogs running at large within the city limits of Florence and issuing warnings and citations to owners of dogs violating the ordinances. Duties of the position also include the impoundment and transporting of various types of animals to the animal shelter, to include unwanted, stray, sick, diseased, injured and vicious animals. The position may also require the officer to assist the Health Department with investigations and animal bites. The officer is also responsible for enforcing animal cruelty laws in the city and county, educating the public about animal welfare, assisting in euthanasia and general cleaning and maintenance of shelter and grounds.
