This position oversees the team responsible for performing labor tasks related to cemetery upkeep and maintenance. Provides general labor, such as, cutting grass, trimming shrubs, preparing and filling grave sites, and miscellaneous maintenance as needed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs general laborer; cutting grass, shrubs, removing leaves, clearing debris, opening and closing grave sites, etc.On occasion, assist in solving customer complaints, using tact and diplomacy.Operates pickup trucks and equipment (weed eaters, hedge trimmers, chain saws, etc.).Assists in preparing grave sites.Loads and unloads construction materials; dirt, sand, gravel, bricks, concrete blocks, and other materials required for daily operation of the department.Performs daily preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.Reports unusual situations/problems to supervisor.Assists in cleanup and removal of debris in emergency conditions.Work schedules may vary depending on City/department needs.Supervise up to 6 workers
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Ability to operate equipment and vehicles assigned to the department.Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with co-workers and the public.Ability to adhere to appropriate safety procedures and regulations.Ability to perform varied maintenance/miscellaneous work assignments.Ability to read, write, and understand material related to the position.Supervision: Works independently without direct supervision overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the City’s Cemetery. Reports directly to the Cemetery Sexton.Physical Demands (with or without accommodations): Must be able to lift 50 lbs. (more on occasion).Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, lift, crawl, get in and out of vehicles.Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions (heat/cold).Must be able to work in and around moving equipment and vehicles.May be subject to call-out in emergency situations.Equipment/Tools Used: Pickup trucks, gasoline weed eaters, hedge trimmers, and chainsaws.For similar job postings, applications may be used for up to ninety (90) days.The City of Florence, Alabama is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
