Works under the supervision and direction of the Construction & Maintenance Coordinator assigned to the Maintenance of Street, Alleys, and Gutters. Leads a team of Multi Equipment Operators performing construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, alleys, parking lots, and other city properties. Supervises the Paving Crew in their daily duties and planning. Supervises the Curb and Gutter Crew in their duties. Coordinates large projects that require multiple crews to accomplish. May assist in other activities including road closures, tree issues, storm issues, etc. Will be on call for after-hour and weekend issues.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists in solving customer problems and complaints.Operates dozer, track loader, backhoe, rubber tire loader, road grader, asphalt paving machine, six-ton roller, asphalt distributor, tractor-trailer, leaf vacuum truck, dump truck, mowers with attachments, and other equipment assigned to the department.Removes refuse, debris, and other materials from streets, alleys, ditches, etc.Demolish structures, clear property, break concrete, and load debris for disposal in landfills or other areas of disposal.Constructs: streets, alleys, sewer lines, etc.Rolls streets, alleys, and parking lots before and after application of double surface chip seal and or hot plant asphalt mix.Supervises the Curb and Gutter Crew as they clean storm sewer drains and inlet boxes using a high-pressure sewer truck. Coordinates with other departments that these activities can affect.Supervise the Paving Crew in their duties and coordinate with other departments these activities can affect.Drives tractor-trailer with low boy.Assists in the repair of heavy equipment.Prepares daily time sheets and other required reports.Evaluate personnel performance: prepare yearly evaluations, recommend disciplinary action as necessary, etc.Ensures that preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and equipment.Represent the Street Department and the City of Florence in a friendly, tactful, and courteous manner.Report problems to the Supervisor or Construction & Maintenance Coordinator.This department may require employees to perform a variety of other assigned duties.Employee will be on call for after-hour and weekend emergencies.Shifts may vary according to the needs of the city.
