JOB
Under the supervision of the Field Operations Supervisor and/or assigned Foreman. A Gas Helper performs duties and responsibilities as assigned by his or her supervisor. Duties can include but are not limited to, assisting a gas journeyman with natural gas pipeline work, directing traffic, job clean-up, painting, and general maintenance. A Gas Helper can NEVER perform any "Operator Qualification" task without a supervisor or gas journeyman present. There are no exceptions to this requirement.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs duties as assigned by the foreman of the section(s) he or she is assigned.Responsible for interpreting, completing, and returning supervisor-assigned work orders in a timely manner.Must adhere to all of the City of Florence and departmental, personnel, administrative, safety, and operational policies and procedures.Required to report for duty after normal working hours and holidays for emergencies, repairs, etc. when required by the Field Operations Supervisor or foreman.Responsible for reporting to duty during work hours as assigned by the Field Operations Supervisor or foreman.Responsible for completing and maintaining records as required by the City of Florence and/or departmental policies.Directs traffic when required.Performs job site cleanup.Performs duties such as grass cutting, painting, general maintenance, etc., when required.Drives a vehicle to and from the job site as assigned by the Field Operations Supervisor or foreman.Responsible for the care and maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment used.Performs minor natural gas pipeline tasks as directed by the Field Operations Supervisor or foreman under the direct supervision of the foreman or an assigned gas journeyman.Under no circumstance is a Gas Helper to perform any natural gas pipeline task in the absence of a foreman or journeyman.Maintains a positive working relationship with all City of Florence and departmental personnel including department heads and supervisors.Must be able to pass pre-employment, random, reasonable cause, and post-accident drug and/or alcohol testing as required by the Office Pipeline Safety of PHMSA, 49 Part §199.1 - §199.245 and/or the City of Florence policy.Conducts oneself professionally and courteously at all times when on duty or when representing the City of Florence or department.Performs other duties and responsibilities within the scope of this job as assigned by the Field Operations Supervisor, Foreman, or Manager.

Some ability to use a personal computer utilizing spreadsheets, databases, word processing, GIS, or other similar software programs.Ability to use communication devices; i.e. radio, cell phone, telephone, etc.Ability to read and interpret written, plans, policies, procedures, manuals, etc.Ability to complete and maintain various records as required by the department manager, and/or supervisors.PHYSICAL DEMANDS (with or without reasonable accommodations): The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A Gas Helper must be able to bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds, and enter and exit underground facilities.
