Florence Electricity Department (FED) is a municipal utility providing electric service to the Florence, AL/Lauderdale County area. FED offers a customer service-driven environment to provide high quality, low cost, safe, and reliable electric service to our customers
Under the direction and supervision of the General Foreman Line Clearance. Work Planner provides customer notification for all tree work conducted by the City of Florence, Utilities Electricity Department tree pruning crews, as well as any contract pruning crews, and audits completed work for quality control. Work Planner also directs crews on a day-to-day basis through written and/or electronic documented work plans. Inspects distribution and transmission rights-of-way.
Supervisor makes assignments and sets overall objectives. Employee is responsible for planning and carrying out the assignments and resolving problems that arise. Employee keeps supervisor informed of progress and situations that arise that may require supervisor's attention. Supervisor reviews work from an overall standpoint.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS (with or without accommodations):
Automobiles, including four-wheel drive pickup trucks; bucket trucks; chipper trucks; tractors; loader trucks; chain saws and other pruning equipment; tree measurement tools; and personal computers.

- Notifies customers of tree work to be performed on their property.
- Prepares and maintains records of work plans for crew distribution.
- Directs routine maintenance crews on a daily basis.
- Notifies City, County, State, and Federal agencies when tree work is needed on their property.
- Performs quality control audits of completed tree work as needed.
- Performs weekly maintenance of tree trimming GIS database.
- Reports customer refusal information to the General Foreman Line Clearance if resolution at first contact is not obtained.
- Inspects and patrol distribution and transmission circuit rights-of-way as necessary.
- Minimum of two (2) year associate degree (preferred) or three years’ experience in public relations and/or utility vegetation issues.
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid Unrestricted Commercial Class “A” Driver’s License within six months of employment.
- Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), or the ability to obtain certification within two (2) years of employment.
- Excellent public relations skills.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate work plans for tree crews.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Tree Crew Foremen.
- Ability to read and follow road maps and technical maps of the electric system both written and electronic.
- Ability to recognize tree defects and hazards.
- Knowledge to recognize and make trimming decisions based on tree growth dynamics.
- Knowledge and ability to operate a personal computer and IPAD to utilize the Department's Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Ability to identify different tree species.
- Knowledge of the Electricity Department's transmission and distribution system.
- Must be able to work overtime and be available for emergency work.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Must maintain a neat appearance.
- Knowledge and ability to operate bucket trucks, chipper trucks, tractors, loader trucks, chain saws, and other pruning equipment.
