Works under the supervision and direction of the manager of Solid Waste, Street and Recycling, and the Construction & Maintenance Coordinator directing the curbside collection of debris, rubbish, leaves, etc. Monitors and coordinates crews working throughout the city and handles incidents involved with curbside collection, or other Street Department problems. Ensures only curbside rubbish is collected and that it is properly handled and disposed of. Represents departments to contractors and citizens about collection rules.

- Assists in solving customer problems and complaints
- Ensures the collection of debris, rubbish, and leaves is completed in a timely and orderly manner
- Establish and ensure that routes are completed in a timely and orderly manner
- Monitors routes to ensure debris from trucks is handled properly and cleaned up
- Discusses city code with citizens and contractors about department responsibilities
- May on occasion operate a rubber tire loader, backhoe, and chainsaw
- Conducts weekly and monthly employee safety meetings
- Prepares daily time sheets and other required reports
- Evaluate personnel performance: prepares yearly evaluations, recommends disciplinary action as necessary, etc.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules
- Ensures that preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and equipment to include cleaning and sanitizing
- Coordinates with Central Garage Manager to ensure maintenance and repair of the fleet is done
- Represents the Street Department and the city of Florence in a friendly, tactful, and courteous manner
- Reports problems to the Manager of Solid Waste, Street, and Recycling
- This department may require employee to perform a variety of other assigned duties.
- Shifts may vary according to the needs of the city
- Six to ten years of experience in refuse collection and disposal with the city of Florence or related experience in the field.
- High school graduate, GED certificate, or experience in a related field.
- Prior supervisory experience is required.
- Must have or obtain a Class B commercial driver's license within six months of hire date.
- Knowledge of Street Department rules and regulations
- Knowledge of the City of Florence streets
- Knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations that apply to working in and around vehicles and equipment
- Ability to follow instructions and get along with fellow employees and customers
- Ability to supervise the collection of debris, leaves, and other materials in an orderly, safe, and timely manner
- Ability to supervise up to 50 employees
- Ability to handle customer complaints in a firm, tactful, and courteous manner
- Ability to prepare time sheets and other required reports
- Ability to establish and maintain collection routes
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance for trucks and equipment assigned to the Street Department
- Ability to read, write, and understand material related to the collection and disposal of refuse

- Ability to work with constant exposure to heat, cold, dampness, noise, vibration, and other disagreeable work conditions
- Ability to stoop, bend, and lift on a regular basis up to 50 pounds (more on occasion)
- Subject to be called out after normal working hours
- Ability to work in and around moving traffic
