JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this role is to enforce pool rules and regulations while monitoring pool usage to ensure the safety of the public.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Always practice preventative lifeguarding techniques to protect the health, safety, and welfare of community pool patrons.
- Maintain constant surveillance by visually and systematically scanning assigned zones to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Enforce all Aquatic Center policies, rules, and regulations.
- Identify hazardous conditions and eliminate or minimize them to ensure safety.
- Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies.
- Provide proper emergency care (first aid/resuscitation/CPR/AED) when necessary.
- Report unsafe/unsatisfactory conditions and behaviors to the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and organized pool area.
- Test water and complete chemical log records.
- Teach quality swim lessons in accordance with current American Red Cross standards and guidelines.
- Be prepared and organized when teaching swimming lessons.
- Maintain a safe and controlled class environment when teaching.
- Interact in a positive and effective manner with parents and participants.
- Properly complete assigned records and reports.
- Candidates must be willing to work weekends, evening hours and holidays.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Sixteen (16) years of age or High school diploma and 1 – 2 years of previous lifeguarding experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must have a valid Georgia Driver's License.
Special Qualifications:
Candidates must pass the required pre-swim test and obtain certifications in First Aid training that includes, Lifeguarding, Swimming & Water Safety, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for Infant, Child, and Adult and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This training must be from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association or attend paid training with the City of Forest Park. Successful completion of a pre-employed drug screen.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make discrimination sound.
- Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
- Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
- Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work may be performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, or rude/irate customers.
