Summary: Under administrative supervision of the fitness coordinator, this position is to instruct group fitness classes in one or more specific formats to recreation participants of various fitness levels and abilities. Currently, we are looking for instructors who are certified to teach and/or have experience in teaching Pilates, general group fitness, & Yoga classes Selected candidates must be able to perform essential duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the stated values of the City of Fort Collins and the Recreation department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Lead and instruct safe and effective group fitness classes in a welcoming, fun and motivating atmosphere.
- Plan to teach a class that matches the title, description, and level of the specific class or classes. Responsible to demonstrate, supervise and assist participants in proper technique of various exercises and routines. To minimize injury and improve effectiveness, may need to correct participant techniques during class.
- Explain and enforce safety rules and proper use of exercise equipment.
- Instruct ongoing classes on scheduled days and times each week, as agreed upon and assigned by supervisor.
- Show up on time to class, prepared to begin class on time. Must arrive to facility and clock in anywhere between 5-15 minutes before class time (instructor is considered tardy clocking in under 5 minutes before class). Instructor may be required to set-up equipment for class use.
- Provide customer service to participants by consistently engaging with others, greeting them, welcoming new individuals, answering questions, or helping to find the answer, creating rapport and a fun group atmosphere.
- Communicate to class participants with announcements including but not limited to reminders to sign up, sessions beginning/ending, class changes and/or additions, days with no class, other updates from facility, or supervisor.
- Always conduct self in a professional manner in accordance with City of Fort Collins and Recreation policies and procedures. Required to wear a City of Fort Collins provided staff shirt when on duty, and follow dress and appearance polices.
- End class on time according to the scheduled time. 50-55 minutes of class instruction time for an hour-long class. May be required to put equipment away at end of class.
- Help keep fitness rooms, equipment, and storage closets clean and organized. Report areas of concern or needs to supervisor in a timely manner regarding equipment and rooms.
- Responsible to find an appropriate substitute instructor for assigned classes when needed within a reasonable time frame.
- Demonstrate teamwork and consistent communication by actively subbing for other instructors, reading weekly update emails from supervisor, passing along feedback received to supervisor, and attending all mandatory fitness staff meetings.
- Maintain current certification(s) at instructors’ expense and keep current on trends and advancements in your training or specialization. Maintain an understanding and knowledge of exercise science, nutrition, and wellness within the scope of your certification and training.

- Must have current certification in area of instruction or specialization (e.g. Zumba, yoga, cycling, group fitness instructor, TRX) approved by fitness coordinator.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk.
- The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
