What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Worker position at City of Fort Lauderdale, FL?
In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. - Estimates materials needed and workload for projects
- Performs maintenance on city buildings; performs painting and drywall replacement
- Performs roadway repairs and maintenance.
- Repairs and restores existing plumbing systems
- Performs general carpentry and other construction type activities
- Installs doors, hardware, locks, etc.
- Develops proposals for projects; creates cost estimates
- Completes minor renovation projects such as bathrooms without assistance
- Inspects and repairs playground equipment
- Performs general property maintenance such as blowing leaves and dumping outside trash
- Pours concrete and makes repairs to masonry walls
- Performs related work as required or directed by lead worker or supervisor
JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- High School Degree or equivalency
- Must possess at least three (3) years of construction experience.
- Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for one year of the required experience or education
- Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida Driver's License within 30 days of hire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
