What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Mechanic (Cemetery) position at City of Fort Lauderdale?
An employee in this class is responsible for the inspection; maintenance; servicing; fabrication; overhaul; and repair of water pumps and filters, motors, and various pieces of equipment used in the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department and other closely related activities. Work is performed independently but may be inspected while in progress or under completion by a supervisor.

- Repairs, services, and maintains engines and small equipment employed in the operation, stationary and portable water pumps, power generators, power vacuums and sweepers, athletic field striping, and marking equipment
- Performs steel fabrication of parts and equipment, trailer and frame construction, and modification of equipment
- Operates and cares for hand and power tools, and equipment used in maintaining, fabricating, and repairing parts for machinery and equipment
- Disburses fuel and oil and maintains an inventory of parts
- Purchases, stocks, and distributes consumable supplies
- Assist with Parks Bond projects
- Performs related work as required
- Have successfully graduated from high school or trade school or possess a G.E.D. certificate from a recognized institution
- Possess at least two (2) years paid work experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of small engines and equipment employed in the operation of turf maintenance.
- Outdoor Power Equipment and Engine Service Association (OPEESA) certification.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, stoop, bend, crouch, climb and kneel in performing a variety of job-related tasks.
