This is skilled journeyman level machinist work of above average difficulty such as; evaluating, assessing, and reverse engineering a wide variety of pumps and mechanical equipment pertaining to sewer, wastewater treatment, stormwater, potable water treatment, and well field water pumping, collections & distribution systems. Repairing and manufacturing from scratch parts and components, shaft rebuilding and balancing, motor and shaft alignments, utilizing all manual machinery and equipment such as: milling machines, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, hydraulic and arbor presses, etc.
This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769 and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.

- Repairs or fabricates replacement parts for worn and or broken components of pumps, shafts, impellers, wear rings, hinges, brackets, housings, etc.
- Repair or fabricate replacement parts via reverse engineering due to lack of data or lack of repair manuals
- Uses industrial machinery such as: lathes, drill presses, milling machines, etc.
- Reads and repairs equipment from exploded view drawings or detail
- Evaluates, dismantles, repairs, adjust and rebuild a variety of machinery and mechanical equipment / tooling with-in the utilities field
- Assist the Small Engine Shop with repair of equipment such as: lawn equipment, generators, compressors, plate compactors, trailers c/o lighting, hub and axel, etc.
- Assists Welder Fabricators w/ fabrication of components and design
- Sharpens tools such as: drills, chisels, machine tooling, etc.
- Reads and interprets blue prints or schematics
- Measures in close tolerances with instruments such as: vernier calipers and micrometers etc. to accuracy of tenths of an inch .0001
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
- Tracks and accounts for work completed through current tracking system, including, purchasing through a P.O and Form 20 system with Finance. Performs work on an IPad or desktop computer
- Performs related work as required.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
- Must have at least three (3) years of Journeyman level experience as a Manual Machinist / Toolmaker.
- Hydraulics, Pneumatics and plumbing experience is preferred.
