The City of Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue Department is hiring for a Senior Accounting Clerk.

Performs a wide variety of more complex and specialized financial and accounting duties in support of an assigned area of the City. Provides accurate information to other City departments and the general public. May serve as a lead worker. Frequent use of independent judgment is involved. Work may involve responsibility for distributing work to a small team of employees in complex accounting activity such as payroll, payables, receivables, billing, etc. Work is subject to verification by a variety of internal automatic checks and periodic audits and reviews.

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Compiles, maintains and audits diversified statistical legal, purchasing, and accounting records
- Records transactions to accounts; maintains and reconciles journals, ledgers, and other records
- May prepare periodic financial and statistical statements, reports, and tabulations
- May track and maintain agreements, and license expiration dates; ensures timely contract renewal and compliance
- May reconcile various accounts, including bank deposits, savings, customer and vendor accounts
- Drafts correspondence; responds to public record requests
- Receives, distributes, and processes invoices; contacts vendors in case of any discrepancy
- May calculate and process payments to employees and external agencies.
- May process purchase requests for assigned Department by following procurement policies and departmental procedures
- Enters and maintains new or updated information into the City’s financial accounting or payroll systems
- Monitors, reviews, analyze and distributes reports and documents
- May administer accounts receivable May act as lead worker to team members as needed
- Performs related work as required
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
- Three (3) or more years of clerical accounting experience. Additional qualifying completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience (provide college transcript if applicable)

- Government accounting experience
- Working knowledge of government/City procurement guidelines
- Intermediate or higher proficiency level in Excel
- Associates degree or equivalent coursework in accounting, finance or related field
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.

Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants may be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.

Salary : $24 - $37
