Starting pay range for position: $18.75-$19.50 per hour

SUMMARY: Join the Recreation Center’s team as a Summer Camp Director!  This is a great opportunity for an experienced teacher, counselor, youth leader, education major or recreation major, looking to expand their knowledge and increase their responsibilities.  Build supervisory skills while overseeing staff of 5 leaders and aides and 20 campers.  Be part of an exciting opportunity to work with school age children, ages 5-12 years, by planning, supervising, and leading fun summer day camp activities – games, sports, arts & crafts, field trips, swim days.  You’ll play a key role in providing a welcoming and safe environment where staff, campers and their families can thrive.  Don’t miss out on a summer filled with adventure and growth!  Apply now.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
•    Possess a professional and welcoming demeanor.
•    Ability to develop and maintain a positive work relationship with program participants, parents of children, and staff.
•    Will be able to communicate effectively with children, parents of children, staff.
•    Must have ability to visually and audibly supervise children in a variety of situations.
•    Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
•    Will have knowledge of child care programming; recreation and its application; safety and emergency first-aid procedures; program management; and customer service principles.

 
TIME REQUIREMENTS:
  • Position is seasonal, summer job, requiring 21-40 hours of work per week.
  • Additional pre-camp hours are needed for planning.  Camp calendar planning takes place in the spring (February – May).  This can be done remotely and timeframe is flexible.  
  • Attend approximately 20 hours of mandatory training, may include evenings and/ or weekends. Camp operates for 10 weeks May 28 – August 2 (camp is closed July 3, 4, 5), 2024.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Elementary Education, Human Services or directly related field preferred. OR
•    Two years of college coursework and (6) six month of experience in the care and supervision of four (4) of more children. OR
•    Three (3) years of full-time experience working in a similar setting with school age children.

EXPERIENCE:

•    Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
•    Must meet appropriate Director requirements/qualifications and provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado’s Department of Human Services upon hire. Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Standard Precautions and Medication Administration or the ability to obtain such certifications upon hire.
•    Complete fifteen (15) hours of training annually.
•    Satisfactory criminal background check including Colorado Bureau of Investigations and TRAILS/Central Registry criminal record review as required by the Colorado Department of Social Services within five (5) working days of employment.
•    Provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado Child Care Licensing Division upon hire.
•    Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment. Must be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.

Candidates whom are hired are subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident testing. Some departments are also subject to random drug testing.

The maintenance of a valid license and a good driving record is required if the job duties require the operation of City vehicles or equipment or who must travel by motor vehicle in the course of City business. Applicants may be required to furnish copies of Motor Vehicle Records (less than 30 days old) when applying for positions that require a valid driver’s license.
