Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, performs a wide variety of skilled, journey-level duties in the testing, field rebuilding and repair, replacement and servicing of residential, industrial, and commercial water meters ranging in size from 5/8” to 3 inch and above. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.
- Receive and respond to emergency and routine work order requests.
- Test and repair water meters.
- Install water meters.
- Perform meter maintenance.
- Drive and maintain motor vehicles; maintain equipment and supplies necessary to complete assigned tasks.
- This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
When assigned to Meter Services / Customer Service:
- May participate in on-call duty.
- Perform after hour service as assigned.
- Repair leaks within the meter box, customer side or city side.
- Responsible for maintenance of meter boxes and lids, trim bushes, meter box replacement, and cleaning out of meter box.
- Ability to operate and use a smart phone and other forms of technology.
- Ability to work with an AMI (Automatic Meter Infrastructure) system.
- Ability to look up and correctly obtain key/relevant information in the billing system needed for completing assigned work/tasks/duties.
- Ability and willingness to complete an acceptable amount of work orders during a workday based on repair priority criteria.
- Performs curb stop change out 5/8” to 2”.
- Install hydrant meters as needed.
- Perform meter change out as scheduled.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

- High School diploma or GED.
- Two years’ experience in utilities billing or related work.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required.
- Must possess Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
