Job Description : SUMMARY
Working under the direction of the Animal Care Coordinator, incumbent performs routine manual tasks relative to the care of all animals. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs duties related to the care of animals housed at the shelter including but not limited to the sanitation of the building;
- Loads and unloads supplies used by animal care staff in all animal housing areas;
- Removes, separates, organizes, all incoming donations from both the business and adoption lobby's;
- Operates washer and dryers as instructed;
- Sorts, folds, and organizes linens and other washable items in their proper locations;
- Sorts, washes, dries, and organizes all items used for feeding, watering, and treating animals;
- Performs light janitorial duties such as sweeping, dusting, emptying trash, etc. in various locations of the building;
- Assists with socializing approved animals throughout the building;
- Provides enrichment as instructed to approved animals throughout the building;
- Contacts supervisor as questions on procedures arise.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized operations.

Valid Driver's License if City Vehicle is used

Incumbent has frequent exposure to animal related hazards. High stress may occur due to attachments made in caring for shelter animals with the knowledge of the possible euthanasia of these animals. The position requires continual physical activity including lifting and carrying animal related items. Works under adverse conditions including extremes of temperature, humidity, and fumes.
