Job Description:


SUMMARY

Working under the general supervision of the Supervisor – Riverfront Maintenance, incumbent is responsible for providing an evening and “after hour” presence at Riverfront facilities. Incumbent will check that buildings are secure, respond to needs of park patrons, perform a variety of janitorial and maintenance duties, respond and react appropriately to specific park related problems and security alarms as required. Incumbent will be responsible for locking and unlocking park facilities as required and acting as liaison between the parks department and the police department to ensure safety in the parks during “after hour” periods. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

OPERATIONS/Judgement

  • Maintains the general appearance of city parks which include, buildings, facilities and grounds.
  • Performs all varieties of janitorial work; such as, cleans and restocks restrooms, cleans and prepares rental pavilions and shelters for the next booking, and park ground litter pickup;
  • Cleans, strips, and waxes floors. Dusts, washes walls, and restroom fixtures as required;
  • Walks park facilities and grounds; picks up litter and debris from park grounds; maintains list of maintenance repairs and items needing maintenance;
  • Checks facilities for vandalism, property damage, and other repairs which need to be addressed and reported;
  • Assists with set-up and tear-down for rental pavilion tables and chairs, and other maintenance as required;
  • Operates a light truck or car;
  • Snow removal and deicing at Riverfront facilities or other facilities as required;
  • Maintains Riverfront water features equipment and filtration of water;
  • Maintains work reports and records as required;
  • Works a schedule requiring working days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Assists in Ice Rink Maintenance;
  • Assists with simple repairs as required
  • Other duties as assigned

EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT

  • Maintains supplies for building cleaning;
  • Maintains all equipment assigned in a safe operating condition;
  • Keeps all areas clean and orderly

INFORMATION/COMMUNICATION

  • Calls City Police for any break-ins, thefts, or misconduct in the parks;
  • Assists park patrons and week duty supervisors with their requirements;

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Maintains a valid Indiana Driver's License if driving a City Vehicle.
