A Buyer I job is available with The City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department, Administration Division. The candidate will be responsible for providing support in the procurement of goods and services for the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department to establish contracts and purchase agreements with suppliers and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Physical Demands
Sedentary Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, purchasing, materials management, marketing, economics, accounting, or a closely related field.
- No experience required
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Municipal purchasing laws, policies, and procedures.
- Basic Accounting procedures and practices.
- Microsoft Office and Excel computer skills.
- Financial management software/systems and purchasing systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, SAP, Bonfire etc.).
- Strong customer service, written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
- Strong research and analysis skills.
- Participates in the purchase of equipment, materials, services, and supplies for the Environmental department
- Prepares bid specifications and other necessary documents related to the purchasing of equipment, materials, services, and supplies in both formal and information situations
- Confers with departmental representatives to determine purchasing needs, specifications, areas of standardization, and special problems
- Solicits bids from appropriate vendors; compares costs and evaluates the quality and suitability of equipment, materials, services, and supplies
- Prepares Mayor and Council communication for new agreements, the extension of existing contracts, and other information as necessary
- Work with the Environmental department to determine purchasing needs, specifications, areas of standardization, and special problems as it relates to the core divisions of the Department.
- Providing routine administrative, fiscal, and technical support for the daily operations of the Administrative Services Division of Environmental Services Department. This will include:
- Monitoring and submitting requisitions for supplies and materials and initiating purchase orders.
- Researching and ensuring bill payments are processed efficiently and timely.
- Monitoring expenditures according to budget guidelines and ensuring adherence to department budget.
- Responding to and resolving customers’ inquiries or direct to appropriate personnel.
- Drafting correspondence, including the processing of pressing assignments.
- Providing staff support to an assigned division including serving as backup for various staff positions in their absence and performing other related duties as assigned.
