A Skilled Trades Tech (Concrete Finisher) position is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Stormwater Concrete Division. The Stormwater Service Area of the Transportation and Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Skilled Trade Technician/Concrete Finisher. The candidate selected for this position will perform construction of small capital projects, including but not limited to the following: roadways, drainage channels, storm drains, curbs, headwalls and pipes. The successful candidate must have the ability to finish concrete, set forms, tie rebar, set pipe and perform strenuous manual labor tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling; general manual dexterity; adequate speech, vision, and hearing required; must be able to operate assigned equipment and vehicles and maintain the ability to crawl into 21” pipes and up
Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Two (2) years responsible experience in the concrete construction industry
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must pass physical and drug screen
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to completion of assigned jobs, such as setting forms, pouring concrete, pipe installation, repairing drainage pipe, drainage structure installations, concrete lined channel work, working with and around heavy equipment, drainage structure repairs, and confined space
- Knowledge and use of various hand and power tools as it relates to Streets and Stormwater maintenance.
- Work zone setup and job site safety
- Basic computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of the Traffic Control (MUTCD) and safety procedures
- Experience working with concrete hand tools; form setting and concrete finishing
- Responsible for monitoring the quality, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness regarding concrete field operations to include construction, maintenance and repair activities which may include water utilities, transportation/public works, city services and other related services.
- Performs technical and complex tasks of the work unit including inspecting field operations equipment and recommending needed repairs
- Participates in setting rails and forms and tying structural steel for concrete projects.
- Directs pouring, spades freshly poured concrete and screens surface level with rails or forms.
- Candidate must have flexible working hours; capable of working four (4) ten hour shifts. This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies which requires working overtime and/or compensatory time. This position consists of equipment operations and manual labor duties as they relate to concrete maintenance operations.
