Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to help plan, organize and implement diversified recreation programming for the City of Fountain Inn and its citizens, as assigned by the Recreation Director. This position is engaged in planning, implementing, coordinating, and supervising recreation programs with involvement in managing recreational facilities, leisure program/services, and special events for the community.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Coordinates city sponsored programming with a focus on diversified youth and adult sports. Implementation of all activities with necessary resources for efficient, safe and service-oriented events including but not limited to: volleyball, baseball, softball, football and basketball during the course of the seasons & based on the program.
Develops sports leagues and activities; schedules classes, leagues, events and programs; reserves facilities and schedules grounds use; recruits and coordinates coaches, referees, and volunteers; provides information and direction as needed; Communicates with coaches, officials, league directors, tournament organizers, and parents/guardians.
Coordinates participant registrations and memberships; receives requests for activities, teams, services, etc.; reviews registration forms for accuracy and completeness; enters information into online database and calendars; and maintains related documentation. Supports the collection of program and participation fees; ensures collection and receipt of fees; prepares deposits; gathers funds; verifies counts; prepares deposit slips; makes deposits; and maintains related documentation.
Creates promotional and informational materials, such as schedules, flyers, rules, guidelines, etc. Serves as a communications liaison for inter-program activity and community members including but not limited to website maintenance and social media presentation and interaction. Attends meetings and supports external associated representation as assigned by the Recreation Director.
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies for assigned programs : purchases supplies according to established budgetary parameters; performs routine maintenance and cleaning tasks as required; ensures proper maintenance and storage of all equipment and supplies; and maintains inventory records. Ensures adequate inventory to complete work assignments and maintains related documentation.
Performs customer service functions: provides information or assistance regarding services, activities, forms, procedures, fees, or other issues; responds to routine questions and complaints. Promotes and serves as a representative of the Recreation Department at departmental events, businesses, schools and as needed.
Assists in the preparation and submission of City grant applications as they pertain to Recreation, including but not limited to the annual Greenville & Laurens County PARD grant. Coordination and participation in City events including but not limited to the Annual Rudolph Run; supports the annual Miracle League Program. Supports Senior Programming activities as needed.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains truck, mower, tractor, score board, security systems, weed eater, blowers, shovels, rakes, hoses, hammers, screw drivers, saws, brooms, mops, floor scrubber, field liner and other equipment. Field maintenance as needed in conjunction with the Public Works Department.
Performs general custodial duties at various parks and facilities. Supports Recreation and City events; sets up and tears down staging, chairs, tables, bleachers, etc. for meetings, classes, tournaments, and events, etc.
Communicates with supervisor, other City employees, volunteers, senior citizens, youth participants, parents, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors’ Degree in Parks & Recreation or related field preferred, and/or vocational or technical training in recreation or sports programming or a related field; supplemented by two years of experience in customer service, recreation program implementation, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Schedule Requirements: Work schedule may vary widely depending upon program needs with additional hours outside the standard schedule and hours of work. Must be able to work nights, weekends and after normal hours according to business needs.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Must possess or have the ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Ability to attend training, workshops, conferences, etc., appropriately related to professional development.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
