CLASS DEFINITION
Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of routine administrative projects and assignments; researches, writes and presents reports and recommendations; and performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
The Intern works under the supervision of the City Manager and/or her designee.
- Perform a wide variety of administrative projects and assignments requiring independent research, analysis and the preparation of written reports and recommendations;
- Independently review, analyze, research and make recommendations on pending legislation;
- Assist in the preparation of a variety of written documents for the City Council;
- Monitor and prepare social media messaging and marketing collaterals;
- Provide administrative support work including answering inquiries from the public in public, on the telephone and via e-mail.
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION:
- Completion of the equivalent of two years of completed coursework at an accredited college or university in an undergraduate program in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field with Junior or Senior status; or
- Current enrollment in a graduate program in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field; or
- Recent graduation (within the previous three months) with a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in a related field
- Previous administrative experience, preferably in a municipal setting is desirable
- Basic principles of municipal government
- Methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis and report preparation
- Modern office methods, practices and procedures
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Independently conduct analytical surveys and studies, and to write clear and concise reports
- Operate a computer and software including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, City officials, and the public
- Communicate effectively, follow oral and written instructions
- Deal effectively and courteously with the public
- Learn, understand, and apply relevant policies and procedures
Work is primarily performed in an office environment requiring prolonged sitting or standing; walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, stooping and bending; input data into a computer terminal; exposure to computer glare, vibrations and pitch; ability to lift, carry and move objects totaling approximately 25 pounds in weight; and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed

Salary : $37,440 - $53,893
