The Police Department is comprised of dedicated professionals including the Chief of Police, 2 Captains, 3 Lieutenants, 1 Support Services Manager, 10 Sergeants, 9 Corporals, 39 Police Officers, 9 full-time Dispatchers and 1 part-time Dispatchers, Crime Analyst, Identification Technician, Record Clerks, Community Services Officers and administrative staff.
CLASS DEFINITIONTo perform a variety of general and specialized clerical duties.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is distinguished by responsible and complex clerical duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
The incumbent works under general supervision.
Assemble and type materials from marginal notes, rough drafts, verbal instructions, transcribing equipment, or tapes and correct any errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Operate computer terminal to input, obtain, or extract pertinent data.
Compile, tabulate, record, and check physical data and prepare for later reports.
Assist departmental staff and the public in person, by phone, and at the front desk.
Maintain the confidentiality of all information.
Prepare document packages for court. Transmit or physically deliver documents and other items to court and other designated locations.
Complete Discovery at the request of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Communicate with employees and the Court regarding availability for subpoenas and court appearances.
Log all traffic collision reports, keep statistics on traffic collisions, and prepare monthly traffic report.
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Previous clerical experience including typing, varying public contact, and operation of standard office equipment. Experience within a municipal government is desirable.

PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed in an office environment requiring prolonged sitting or standing; walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, stooping, and bending; input data into a computer terminal; exposure to computer glare, vibrations, and pitch; ability to lift, carry, and move objects totaling approximately 25 pounds in weight; and have mobility, vision, hearing, and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.
