PAY:
Wastewater Operator I: $25.82/hour - $28.10/hour
This opening is for 2nd Shift with a 7% shift differential (3pm-11pm) OR
3rd Shift with a 10% shift differential (11pm-7am)
Training will be on the 1st shift
Purpose of Job
As an entry-level position, monitors and maintains controls of clean water facility equipment.
Essential Job Duties
A. Operational:
- Monitors the general operation of facility through understanding of Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) program under direct supervision of Senior Operators or Superintendent and apply basic comprehension of process control and manipulation.
- Performs, under the direct supervision of Senior Operators or Superintendent, basic maintenance of equipment to include cleaning process equipment, measuring sludge blankets, compliance process samples, and perform shutdown and start-up of plant equipment as required.
- Assisting Senior Operators with collecting clean water quality parameters from basins, using analytical equipment to collect parameters and applying a basic comprehension of parameter results.
- Conducts routine rounds to monitor and record plant operations in hardcopy and electronic format such as chemical tank usage, odor control operation, and general functionality of equipment in both solids and liquids process areas.
- Performs cleaning and general maintenance and repair of indoor and outdoor process equipment and instrumentation calibration essential to facility operations.
- Ability to perform as a team member and understand chain-of-command decisions.
- Ability to work independently with direction.
- Ability to understand, properly choose and correctly use Personal Protection Equipment.
Other Job Duties
Performs other job duties as assigned, including:
- Assist Senior Operators with collection of compliance river samples, including flagging and traffic control, as necessary.
- Maintains cleanliness and general housekeeping throughout the facility.
- Retrieve local weather details for operational data.
- May operate mower and weed eater to maintain facility grounds.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair of facilities’ treatment process equipment and reclaim water system.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities to assist other employees in the Department as required or as assigned.
Primary Job Challenges
Primary challenges of this position include working around hazardous waterborne pathogens and communicating observed or potential issues.
This facility operates continuously and is divided into three 8-hour shifts for full coverage of operations.
This position may require operations at a time other than typical weekday, day-shift work.
Equipment Operated
Operates all equipment in the facility as well as computers, tablets, and other office equipment such as printers.

Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology, principles, and methods utilized within the Department. Is knowledgeable and proficient with computers.

VII. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: Performance of the essential duties of this job requires the incumbent to:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Regularly move about around different worksites.
- Constantly operates equipment or machinery such as blowers, pressure washers, backpack blowers, backhoe, track hoe, small dump truck, asphalt roller, rubber tire frontend loader, tractor mower, bush hog, bobcat, chipper, jackhammer, tapping machine and underground piercing tools.
- Frequently positions self to maintain work area and items needed to complete daily tasks.
- Regularly communicates information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Occasionally ascends/descends ladders.
- Regularly moves/transports up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally moves/transports up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment: Performance of the essential duties of this job requires:
- Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
- Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles
- Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions
The work environment is very loud (examples: jack hammer work, front row at rock concert)
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of an HS diploma or equivalent; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
