POSITION TITLE: School Crossing Guard

DEPARTMENT: Police

RATE CLASS: Hourly Employee - Part Time

REPORTS TO: Police Captain

SHIFT: School days - one to two hour minimum.

Skills

• Must have the ability to deal firmly, yet courteously with the public, be alert, be able to carry out complex oral instructions, and possess good observation and memory skills.
• Must be of excellent character and reputation, to include no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictins involving moral turpitude.
  
  

Duties & Resposibilities

• Protect and assist students at the schools within the City of Freeport
• Perform a multitude of functions to ensure that students arrive safely
• School Crossing Guards are provided training to include the proper methods of traffic direction
  
  

OTHER DUTIES: This job description is intended to describe the general nature of work performed by the School Crossing Guard and is not intended to be all-inclusive. All employees are expected to perform tasks as assigned by their supervisor; furthermore, working hours may be extended in times of necessity. All municipal employees will be expected to show and maintain a high level of initiative, enthusiasm, and motivation towards the improvement of ALL aspects of the Freeport community. Employees will also be expected to be available for work, to report to work in a dependable and timely fashion, and to be physically and mentally fit to do their assigned work.

• Must pass a drug analysis test, physical exam, and successfully complete a background check.
