Summary
Summary : Under the general supervision of the Utilities Maintenance Supervisor with direction from the Crew Leader, the Heavy Equipment Operator I operates a variety of heavy and light construction equipment in the general installation, maintenance and repair of City water system mains and water pipes. Participates in general maintenance and labor activities as necessary for timely completion of projects and work orders.

Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties
Essential Job Functions :
- Hauls and operates heavy and light equipment to and from assigned worksites.
- Operates heavy and light equipment for the installation of water lines, water system mains, valve & hydrant installation and repairs, the repair of water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances.
- Conducts safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, sets up barricades, cones and road signs, and wears protective and safety gear as indicated for the work assignment.
- Performs maintenance on City water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances; inspects and tests lines in the distribution system; threads and fits pipes.
- Inspects work in progress and at completion for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, plans and specifications and standards of quality and safety.
- Prepares, gathers and transports tools, materials, supplies and equipment necessary to complete work assignments.
- Assists Crew Leaders other crew members to complete work orders in a safe and timely manner.
- Cleans and repairs work site upon completion of construction, and repair projects.

Equipment and Tools Utilized :
Equipment utilized includes heavy and light construction equipment including back hoes, graders and dump trucks, trailers and department vehicles, hand and power tools, blue prints, as-builts, and blue stakes of marked utility lines.
