What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Utility Worker position at City of Fruitland, Idaho?
Job Summary
Under the daily direction of the Public Works Foreman, or others as assigned by the Public Works Director, the principal function of an employee in this class is to work with a crew or individually in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s utility systems, rights-of-way, roads, buildings, and other facilities.
Examples of Duties
Assist with or perform tasks related to wastewater collection:
- Maintain and repair wastewater collection system facilities, including lift stations, wet wells, and pumps.
- Operate jet-vacuum truck and high-pressure hoses to maintain lines and manholes, to remove blockages, cleaning of grease and debris from manholes, wet wells, etc.
- Excavating for installation, removal, repair, or replacement of wastewater lines.
- Locate and mark Digline requests accurately and respond to emergency requests as needed.
- Protect/raise manholes covered by overlay or other road projects
- Operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to jet-vacuum truck, backhoe, loader, dump truck, power and hand tools
- View records related to lift stations and the collection system with regards to maintenance and other repair activities
Assist with or perform water distribution system tasks:
- Meter reading activities, installation and maintenance of water mains, water services, fire hydrants, etc.
- Operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to jet-vacuum truck, backhoe, loader, dump truck, power and hand tools
Contribute to the maintenance of city roads, sidewalks, and rights-of-way:
- Road surfaces for patching, overlay, paving, chip seal, pothole repair, sink holes, and other issues
- Maintenance of storm drains, street signs, and sidewalks.
- Operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to jet-vacuum truck, backhoe, loader, dump truck, snowplows, power and hand tools
Any other duties, tasks, or assignments as directed by Public Works Director.
Licenses and Certification Requirements
-Possession of valid Idaho or Oregon Driver License, with a satisfactory driving record to maintain insurability. Preference may be given for possession of Commercial Class B or higher.
-Possession of or ability to obtain Idaho DOPL Drinking Water Distribution Operator-In-Training license or higher within 12 months of hire.
-Possession of or ability to obtain Idaho DOPL Wastewater Collections Operator-in-Training license or higher within 12 months of hire.
Other Requirements
-Graduation from high school or equivalent.
-Must be available for stand by and emergency call outs
- While on call, must be able to respond within 30 minutes
Those with Commercial Class B or higher and possession of Idaho DOPL Drinking Water and Wastewater Collections licenses may be given priority. As part of the selection process, a practical exam may be required in addition to an interview.
