Vacancies: This examination is being held to establish an eligible list to fill future vacancies as appropriate in the City of Fulton or the Fulton Consolidated School District.
General Statement of Duties: The incumbent to this position is responsible for routine clerical work involving financial record keeping, reviewing and related tasks, including typing. An employee in this class usually works under general supervision on standard routine assignments in accordance with detailed procedures.
Residency Requirement: Candidates must have been legal residents of Oswego County for at least one (1) month immediately preceding the date of the written exam.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from High School or GED and one (1) year of experience, which shall have included typing, in the compilation and maintenance of financial accounts and records.
Subject of Examination: Written test designed to test for knowledge, skills and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. OPERATIONS WITH LETTERS AND NUMBERS: These questions test your skills and abilities in operations involving alphabetizing, comparing, checking and counting. The questions require you to follow the specific directions given for each question which may involve alphabetizing, comparing, checking and counting given groups of letters and/or numbers.
2. ARITHMETIC COMPUTATION WITH CALCULATOR: These questions test for the ability to use a calculator to do basic computations. Questions will involve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You may also be asked to calculate averages, to use percents, and to round an answer to the nearest whole number. You should bring with you a hand-held battery- or solar-powered calculator for use on this test. You will not be permitted to use the calculator function of your cell phone.
3. ARITHMETIC REASONING: These questions test your ability to solve an arithmetic problem presented in sentence or short paragraph form. You must read the problem, understand the situation presented, decide what must be done to solve it, and apply the appropriate arithmetic operation(s) in the appropriate order in order to determine the correct solution. Knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is necessary. Questions may also involve the use of percents, decimals, and fractions. You should bring with you a hand-held battery- or solar powered calculator for use on this test. You will not be permitted to use the calculator function of your cell phone.
Fee: A non-refundable fee of $15.00 is required for each separately numbered examination for which you apply. The required fee must accompany your application. Send check or money order payable to City of Fulton. Do not send cash. You are urged to compare your qualifications carefully with the requirements for admission and file only for those examinations for which you are clearly qualified. No refunds will be made to candidates who are disqualified or fail to appear.
Application Fee Waiver: A waiver of application fee will be allowed if you are unemployed and primarily responsible for the support of a household. In addition, a waiver of application fee will be allowed if you are determined eligible for Medicaid, or receiving Supplemental Security Income payments, or Public Assistance (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families/Family
Assistance or Safety Net Assistance) or are certified Job Training Partnership Act/Workforce Investment Act eligible through a State of local social service agency. All claims for application fee waiver are subject to verification. If you can verify eligibility for application fee waiver, complete a “Request for Application Fee Waiver and Certification” form and submit it with your application by the close of business on the Application Deadline as listed on the Examination Announcement. Forms are available upon request at the Personnel/Civil Service Office.
Calculator Statement: Use of calculator is recommended.
Veteran's Credits: Active service members, veterans or disabled veterans desiring to claim additional credit should submit Veteran's Credits form prior to the establishment of the eligible list resulting from this exam. Forms are available upon request at the Personnel/Civil Service Office.
Note: Military members, Saturday Sabbath and Disabled Persons: If special arrangements for testing are required, indicate this on your application form.
This examination is being prepared and rated by the New York State Department of Civil
Service in accordance with Section 23-2 of the Civil Service Law. The provisions of the New York State Civil Rules and Regulations dealing with the rating of exams will apply to this examination.
Accepted candidates for examination will be notified of when and where to appear for the examination. Candidates will not be admitted to the examination unless they have an admission letter and photo I.D. Disqualified candidates will be notified by mail.
The Civil Service Commission Office does not make formal acknowledgment of the receipt of an application or take responsibility for non-delivery of mail or postal delays. If you move, it is your responsibility to notify the Civil Service Commission Office of your new address. The Commission makes no attempt to locate candidates who have moved.
