General Statement of Duties: The incumbent to this position is responsible for performing typing and general clerical duties in a proficient manner. The work is performed under general supervision with detailed instructions given based on complexity level of assignments. Specific duties may vary with the needs of the department and the incumbent is required to perform other related work as assigned.
Residency Requirement: Candidates must be residents of Oswego County or a contiguous county (Cayuga, Jefferson, Onondaga, Madison, Oneida, and Lewis) for a minimum of one (1) month immediately preceding the date of the written exam. Preference in appointment may be given to residents of the City of Fulton.
Minimum Qualifications:
(A) Graduation from high school or the possession of a high school equivalent diploma,
including or supplemented by a course in typing/keyboarding or word processing on micro-computers; OR
(B) Completion of a course in typing/keyboarding or micro-computer word processing and two years of clerical experience involving the operation of a typewriter/keyboard or micro-computer; OR
(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of
both(A) and (B) above.

These questions are designed to test a candidate's ability to file material accurately in alphabetical order.
These questions are designed to test a candidate's visual perception and basic clerical accuracy in working with alphanumeric characters. The candidate is required to read, compare, check, record, and count letters and numbers following specific directions for each question. Knowledge of the alphabet and the ability to count are required.
These questions are designed to test a candidate's ability to perform common record keeping tasks. The test consists of two or more "sets" of questions, each set concerning a different problem. Typical record keeping balances; or completion of a table summarizing data using totals, subtotals, averages and percent.
Fee: A non-refundable fee of $15.00 is required for each separately numbered examination for which you apply. The required fee must accompany your application. Send check or money order payable to CITY OF FULTON. You are urged to compare your qualifications carefully with the requirements for admission and file only for those examinations for which you are clearly qualified. No refunds will be made to candidates who are disqualified or fail to appear.

This examination is being prepared and rated by the New York State Department of Civil Service in accordance with Section 23-2 of the Civil Service Law. The provisions of the New York State Civil Rules and Regulations dealing with the rating of exams will apply to this examination.
Accepted candidates for examination will be notified of when and where to appear for the examination. Candidates will not be admitted to the examination unless they have an admission letter and photo ID.
Disqualified candidates will be notified by mail.
The Civil Service Commission Office does not make formal acknowledgments of the receipt of an application or take responsibility for non-delivery of mail or postal delays. If you move, it is your responsibility to notify the Civil Service Commission Office of your new address. The Commission makes no attempt to locate candidates who have moved.
