What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event & Paddle Boat Crew Member position at City of Gahanna?
Event & Boat Crew Members will assist the Recreation Superintendent and Recreation Coordinators with events and services provided by the Parks & Recreation Department including, but not limited to community events, Creekside kayaks & paddle boats, outdoor programming, and sports facility operations. Â Recreation Crew Members will be scheduled to work during the day, evening, weekend, or holiday hours.

- Referral Bonus
- Any applicant can refer up to 4 candidates ($50* per candidate). Â Rehires are not eligible to be referred but are encouraged to refer other candidates. Â When completing the online application, the applicant must include the first and last name of the person who referred them to apply. Â The person who referred the candidate does NOT need to be an active employee at the time of the application. Â (Family members are NOT eligible to be referred.)
- Onboarding Bonus
- All seasonal employees that are fully onboarded and ready to work by May 1st will receive a $100* bonus
- All applicable taxes will be deducted from the bonus payments.Â
- Assists the Parks and Recreation Department with the Recreation Division's programs and special events. Â Provides positive customer service.
- Responsible for operation of the Creekside kayaks and paddle boats, which includes checking daily reservations, maintaining boater safety, and providing instructions on how to use equipment.Â
- Maintains area cleanliness.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Experience
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Current and valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract in order to meet criteria for insurability established by the City of Gahanna.
- Must have a current CPR, First Aid, and AED certificate, or willingness to obtain.
- Provide general housekeeping of work area, including sweeping, dusting, or picking up trash.
- Monitoring safety of participants in the area or function assigned.
- General upkeep of equipment and supplies in the area or function assigned.
- May assist in providing customer service to the Parks & Recreation Department such as answering phones, fielding questions, enrolling participants in programs.
Knowledge of
- Office terminology, procedures and equipment.
- Operations of local government and/or a Parks and Recreation Department preferred.
- Outdoor recreation experience (kayaking or canoeing) preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Cash drawer operations such as addition, subtraction and proper cash handling techniques.
- Utilizing Microsoft Office products, such as Excel and Word.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
- Follow complex written and oral directions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, business executives, other employees, and the general public.
- Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, reaching, walking, grasping and repetitive motions.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surrounding and activities.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed may be performed outdoors, in hot or cold temperatures. Some work may occur in a normal office environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust.
