What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic Signal Technician I, II, or III (DOQ) position at City of Gainesville, GA?
Position filled (Level I, II, or III) will be depending on qualifications. Pay shown is minimum for Level I. Pay will be commensurate with level filled and experience.
Under minimum supervision, provides technical support to the traffic division as a grounds technician in the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic signals, traffic control devices, signs and pavement markings, utility locates, and other traffic related equipment.Participates in the installation, inspection, removal, and repair of signal control and auxiliary equipment such as traffic signal controllers and cabinets, vehicle and pedestrian head assemblies, vehicle detection, lights and circuitry.
Perform bi-annual preventive maintenance of traffic signals.
Participates in the installation, inspection, removal and repair of traffic control devices such as pedestrian flashing beacons, school zone flashers, radar speed signs, speed humps.
Participates in the fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance of roadway pavement markings and roadway signs.
Assist in diagnosing malfunctions of traffic signals and traffic control devices.
Adjust, repairs, replace, or modify electric, electronic and mechanical components, controllers, relays, switches, fuses, timers and other parts.
Investigate complaints and reports of traffic signal and traffic control device malfunctions.
Adjust, repairs, or removes defective traffic equipment.
Make field repairs of damaged traffic equipment.
Identify and repair wire circuits.
Re-lamps, replace LED inserts, on signalized intersections.
Assist with utility locates for the City Traffic fiber and signals.
Keep accurate work records.
Set up and take down proper traffic control.
Performs shop and building maintenance insuring cleanliness.
Perform other related duties as required.Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum of one year of basic electricity experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic electrical knowledge.
Ability to use various hand tools, electrical meters, drills and basic computer knowledge.
Able to lift upwards of 50 lbs. and work at heights of up to 50 ft.

The incumbent can qualify for promotion to Traffic Signal Technician II if the following conditions are met:

Position qualifies for a 5% incentive based upon attainment of a CDL Class A license.
Position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of an IMSA Traffic Signal Technician I certification.
Position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of an IMSA Traffic Signal Technician II certification.
Position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of an IMSA Traffic Signal Technician III certification.
Position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of an IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings I certification.
Position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of an IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings II certification.
Maximum of 15% in certification incentive pay.
