Description
To lead and instruct water-based fitness classes at the Leonard Park Aquatic Center; to deliver safe, effective, and enjoyable water aerobics classes to individuals in a pool setting; and to monitor activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to participants by performing the following duties.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:

Create and provide class instruction to participants
- Plan and lead water aerobics classes that include cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and endurance exercises.
- Adjust exercises based on participants’ fitness levels, ensuring each participant is engaged and challenged appropriately.
- Demonstrate proper technique and provide guidance throughout the class to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Foster participant engagement
- Provide motivational support and positive encouragement to participants during classes.
- Offer modifications to exercises based on individual needs, such as for beginners or those with injuries.
- Foster a friendly and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Monitor class participants and/or swimmers closely to ensure safety in and around the pool.
- Caution class participants and/or swimmers regarding unsafe areas and/or acts.
- Rescue class participants and/or swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid when necessary.
- Maintain a safe environment in and around swimming pool facilities; report incidents, accidents and injuries to the assistant manager or manager.
- Track class attendance and maintain records for each class.
- Provide feedback and suggestions to management regarding class performance and participant progress.
- Inspects facilities for cleanliness and comply with relevant health and safety regulations.
- Participate in the maintenance of swimming pool facilities; clean and vacuum the pool.
- Ensure that pumps and related mechanical devices are functioning properly.
- Continuing education as pertains to rules and regulations.
- Stay up to date with the latest water aerobics trends, exercises and techniques.
- Keep active in life guarding procedures according to lifeguard book.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Proper pool safety rules and regulations.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
- Motivate and engage participants.
- Implement pool activities and events.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment in and around swimming pool.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
- Swim well enough to ensure a rescue can be properly performed.
- Swim and remain in the water for extended periods.
- Lead physical exercises that require stamina, coordination, and strength.
- Perform rescue techniques that was received in training in lifeguard course.

Experience:
Previous experience teaching water aerobics or other fitness classes preferred. Experience in working with diverse age groups and fitness levels is a plus.
Education/Training:
- Must have current CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- Must have current Lifeguard Certification including Basic First Aid.

- Daily requirement to participate in condition swim program.
- Weekly requirement to participate in-service training program (physical and written).
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
- Regularly works in outside weather conditions.
- Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat (non-weather).
- Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
